Messy Cords 7 Clever Ways to Organize Your life

May 1, 2016 by Nick & Cindy Davis

Somewhere between adding the blue ray player to upgrading to a surround sound and wall mounted flat screen television, it finally happened: The disorganized messy cords hidden behind our  TV was really a very disorganized, vaguely nightmarish mess of wires protruding from behind our TV and threatening to take over the entire room. And our life!
The entire jumble started to taunt us-staring us down, laughing at us every time We were plopped down on the couch to wind down. Pushing the tangle back behind the television stand didn’t work. Trying to untangle the cords and simply arrange them neatly back didn’t work.
The fact is, nothing we tried worked for longer than a couple of days-and then everything went to hell again. Did all these wires possess a (highly unpleasant) life of their very own?
In the event your wires, like ours, have reared their heads and will not be tamed, We are here to tell you: We are able to win this thing! Try these ideas for decluttering cords once and for all.

Messy Cords 7 Clever Ways to Organize Your Life

Messy Cords 7 Clever Ways to Organize
Unplug, untangle, and labelMessy Cords 7 Clever Ways to Organize
First step: Untangle the cords. The simplest way would be to unplug everything from the power strip first and then wind your way back, but don’t unplug the cord from your device just yet. Once you discover where each cord belongs, add an unobtrusive label. We labeled all our cables on both ends of the cord, so that it doesn’t matter which end of the cord we might be unplugging from its connection. We can quickly-and accurately-plug it back in.Messy Cords 7 Clever Ways to OrganizeTie them together
Once you have everything untangled, cable ties will help keep everything together. You are able to decide on simple plastic zip ties or go fancy with color-coded Velcro ties (Amazon, $7.99). For those who have multiple cords going to the same device, bunch them together-it’ll keep things simple if you need to move the device later.
Use a tubeMessy Cords 7 Clever Ways to Organize
If ties aren’t quite neat enough for you, you’ll be able to up the ante with tubing. Fish tank tubing works great if you can get the right size. Or you can buy electronic-specific roll-ups for instance cable sleeves (Amazon, $16.99), that happen to be great simply because you can open them up if you need to add a new cord.Messy Cords 7 Clever Ways to OrganizeCut the length
Have an extralong cord extending past your ties? Wrap it up to the length you need using a Cable Turtle (the Container Store, $4.99). If you require more slack later, just turn the spool until you have enough wire poking out.
Corral your chargerscablemanagement
Have a a lot of extra chargers on your desk for tablets, smartphones, and otherwise? Gather them together with a simple cable management system (Amazon, $6.99). Honest, if you have as many devices as we do, you’ll be glad that you did. The system has slots for several cords, and yes it stays put, meaning your gadgets and chargers will all stay in one place.
cableclips-cropKeep cables in place
Hanging computer, lamp, and radio wires off the back of your desk is tricky. It keeps the cords out of sight, sure, but they also move around quite a bit, possibly driving you crazy at the same time. To keep things motionless, try cable clips (Amazon, $9.95). The clips can affix to any flat surface (even vertically), holding thin wires in position.
Conceal power stripsConceal power strips
If you have a lot of wires running into a power strip on the floor, it can be unsightly. To solve this eyesore, consider using a CableBox, which holds a power strip inside. Wires are funneled through a small hole, keeping everything straight as a, well, blessedly straight cord (the Container Store, $29.99).

This does not only allow you to be happy with not seeing all the wires and cables any longer. It also is very useful if you have decided to sell your home too. We are available to assist you with that. We can always be reached by calling us at 813-300-7116 or simply click here and we be in touch with to schedule a time when we can get together and show you why you want to hire us to sell your home.
