At the request of Florida Insurance Commissioner David Altmaier, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) granted another extension to victims of Hurricane Matthew flooding, giving National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policyholders an extra 60 days to file a complete, signed and sworn proof of loss in support of their insurance claim for flooding damages associated with Hurricane Matthew.
Hurricane Matthew damages
Typically, NFIP policyholders have Sixty days to file a proof of loss with their insurance company following the initial date of loss. Because of this latest extension, Florida NFIP policyholders are going to have received a total of 180 extra days to file a proof of loss for damage brought on by Hurricane Matthew.
The deadline for claims for Hurricane Hermine expired last month, however – on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017. However, policyholders who experienced flood damage from Hermine should continue working with their flood insurance company.
