A boost in burglaries throughout the summer months means itโs the perfect time to help safeguard your clientsโ homes while theyโre away for the season or absent while selling. Ooma, a smart home phone and home security company, offers six suggestions for preventing break-ins.
Home Security System Suggestions for the Summer season
Front door surveillance. Because 34 percent of break-ins happen through the front door of a home, {recommend that|propose that} you purchase a smart doorbell that routes to their phone. Other security options Ooma mentions include two-way speakers which can give visitors the sense the owner is home, or video cameras so you are able to see whoโs at the door using your phone.
Secured windows. The second most typical break-in location is a bottom floor window, the entry way of 23% of burglars. Ooma recommends installing sash locks and wireless motion sensors designed to alert the homeowner if a window is opened or broken.
Donโt neglect the AC unit. Pushing in a window ac unit is an additional common break-in method. Suggest motion sensors close to the Air conditioning unit, or remove the unit while you are away, Ooma says.
Barring patio and sliding glass doors. Sliding doors must not simply be locked, but must also use a barrier bar in the tracks. Ooma suggests homeowners place motion detectors here too.
Leave the lights on. The objective is to have the home appear lived in, regardless of whether you are vacationing or have already moved out. Ooma recommends smart lights that homeowners can control from the phone, or at a minimum, light timers.
Call 911 from afar. A homeowner attempting to get through to the police using a remote location may take valuable minutes. Home security companies, including Ooma, offer remote 911 calling.
