Jon Cone owns the Kayak Shack in Weeki Wachee. According to him paddle sports really started to take off about four years ago and things are not slowing down. “I went kayaking and loved it and then got the business and really haven’t been kayaking since,” he said, laughing.

Coast Guard officials have some advice for staying safe on the water. You shouldn’t venture out alone and also have a float plan. Also, know your physical limitations along with the limitations of the paddle-craft. It’s actually a popular way of spending some time on the water that is showing no signs of getting old.
