Flooring Trends In 2016

April 26, 2016 by Nick & Cindy Davis

We all know what kind of flooring is available: Wood, Carpet, and Tile. Trends in flooring change in terms of color, texture, and sustainability but generally we stick to these three basics. This is true today with a few exceptions here and there. So to keep you informed on what will give your home that “new modern look” here is what is in this year!

Flooring Trends In 2016

Hardwood

Hardwood flooring has cracks, knots, and splits that give it is rustic charm. While they tend to require more long term maintenance, they are a beautiful addition to your home. The popular colors this year are anything dark (Ebony & Espresso), gray & white washed, and ultra blonde. Reclaimed and American wood are also popular this year.

Carpet

Carpets are becoming more “Green” (no not those dated green carpets) thorough limiting chemicals used, using recycled materials, and using biodegradable dyes. In 2016 we are moving away from beige and toward gray-blended neutral colors that are more of a gray-brown. In addition to being soft to the touch, texture is being added to create more aesthetically appealing carpets.

Tile

Tile is extremely versatile, so there are many choices when it comes to choosing tile. Popular trends include large/x-large tile, brick tile, laminate tile, and patterned. A neutral-gray pallet would be your most trendy option.

Other Flooring

So I did mention that there were some exceptions to the traditional hardwood, carpet, and tile flooring options. So here they are in all their miscellaneous glory.

Concrete is making its way back into the world of interior design as an urban chic look.

Flooring Trends In 2016

Luxury Vinyl is a common cost-effective durable option that is available in many designs that replicate other materials.

Flooring Trends In 2016

Glass is an unusual alternative ( I was surprised)  that provides a highly dramatic look. It is made to be slip resistant and durable.

Flooring Trends In 2016

Cork is soft and durable and it is an Eco-friendly alternative that comes in many colors and textures.

Flooring Trends In 2016

So there you have it all that you need to know (and much more) about the flooring trends in 2016! The important thing to remember when choosing a floor is maintenance, cost, durability, and most important what you like!
