5 Ways to Simplify an Upcoming Move

January 24, 2018 by Nick & Cindy Davis

Whether you are buying a new home or selling your existing home, you will be moving. Together with Casper Moving we would like to share with you 5 Ways to Simplify an Upcoming Move.

5 Ways to Simplify an Upcoming Move

SHIP THINGS:
When it comes to simplifying your move, the internet is a handy sidekick. Over 70% of consumer purchases are now happening via the internet. movingWhether you are shopping for new home necessities – big or small, consider shipping items directly to your new home. There is no need to curb your shopping excitement and then have to move, lift and haul additional items.

In a similar vein, there are countless shipping services that will deliver your current possessions right down the block or even across the country – be sure to do some comparable shopping to find which moving services will best help alleviate stress in your unique situation.

STORE THINGS:
Storage units are abundant! The concept of self-storage is nothing groundbreaking but has become a popular business across the world. Why? It most likely has something to do with our human culture and inherent need to collect, hoard, and possess more things. Fun fact, there is a self-storage facility within 20 miles of any location in America. Take advantage during your move and use this extra space to ease the crunch of a quick or rushed move.

SELL THINGS:
Moving is a great time to spring clean – regardless of the season. There is no need to pack up and haul things that are only dead weight and no longer useful in your life. While packing, sort through your back-stock of belongings while creating a “to be sold” (& even “to donate”) pile. You will not only find yourself far more organized for unpacking day but also the potential extra cash will help with unknown costs associated with the move (unpacking day pizza).

UTILITIES ARE UNAVOIDABLE:
When you begin to unpack the last thing you’ll want to worry about is the various utility appointments and many decisions to make on which utilities are necessary to complete your new haven. Consider planning this out pre-move. Scheduling these appointments weeks in advance will help things happen with ease. If you time these just right you can have the lengthy service appointments fall on the days you already have planned for painting or unpacking.

NEW HOME ESSENTIALS:
There’s no need to hire, transport, and haul your old worn out home-goods that you plan to replace. Whether this be your 10 year old mattress, or rarely worn bin of shoes. Consider now the time to revamp your at home must haves. Do adequate research and treat yourself to something you’ve been eyeing. Try to avoid impulse purchases in store before your move (even if it’s a great deal), instead shop ahead online and make investments in the pieces you want most. You will not only save yourself the extra weight in the move but you can have all your new home essentials delivered to your new front door in a matter of days. Today, brands including Casper ship their revolutionary mattresses directly to your home – packed airtight and delivered in a box to make moving a bit more simple.

SURVIVAL KIT:
The hardest part of making a move may just be the transition phase. Living out of boxes and duffle bags is only exciting for a night or two before it becomes a burden on your routine. Depending on the length of your move, pack your must have essentials accordingly. We can relate on the frustration we feel when replacing an item you already own but just can’t seem to find. Mindful preparedness can really go a long way in both the moving process and your sanity.
